Glacier Climate Action (GCA) is a group of volunteers who want to DO something about climate change. Our focus is on giving a voice to those in our community who share our concerns about this critical issue. We are committed to the promotion of sustainable climate solutions through education, community engagement and activism.
GCA was born in 2013 when we organized four rallies around the Flathead Valley in conjunction with the national Forward on Climate rally in Washington, DC to urge our national leaders to take action on climate change.
Since then, GCA has held more than a dozen events. These include hosting presentations from artists concerned about climate change, movie screenings of films including Chasing Ice and Do The Math, and sponsored a public forum about coal exports to China. We’ve met with student groups, journalists and elected officials. Hundreds of Flathead Valley residents have participated in our #ActOnClimate rallies.
Climate change is the most important issue of our time affecting national security, food stability and the future of our species. We are the first generation to experience the effects of climate change and the last to be able to do something about it before the global climate reaches a dangerous tipping point.
In Montana we have more clout than most as we have more US Senators per capita than most states. We can set the example here by limiting the mining of fossil fuels and instead choosing to tap our huge potential for clean renewable energy. We can make a difference!
Future GCA activities may include rallies, movies, social gatherings, speakers, classroom visits, petitions and letter writing campaigns. If you would like to be kept informed about GCA’s climate related events and activities, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to our mailing list. We hope you will also “like” our Glacier Climate Action page on Facebook.
Welcome to the GCA community!
